Reading/Writing
Children are exposed to a wide variety of fine motor activities that help them develop the skills that they need to write letters. Whether writing in shaving cream, tracing sand paper letters, or stamping letters, children begin to see and feel each letter’s formation. They begin with curves and lines, eventually learning to form letters. Children are given opportunities to write and draw on a variety of media, including chart paper, chalkboards, and dry erase boards.
An expansive selection of language, literacy, and writing materials foster growth in the development of beginning writing. Writing gives our pre-kindergarten children a way to express their thoughts, feelings, and creativity through pictures and/or words.
Emphasis is placed on social interaction, emotional growth and independence. Children learn to follow directions, take turns, share, and co-operate. They are given lots of opportunities to make decisions and encouraged to make good choices.
Math
Math skills are developed with group and individual hands-on experiences. Children’s math experiences expand as they count higher, compare more, make graphs, expand patterning skills, and begin to add and subtract.
Bible Studies
We are Christian based and teach bible stories weekly and practice Christian attitudes. Our beliefs are that the Bible is the Word of God. This also means in school it is important to teach the important things of God. Such as: God loves them, God wants them to obey him. We teach stories from the Old Testament, such as Daniel, Jonah & Moses and the new testament of Jesus’ birth through his resurrection. We always have a life application so they understand that the stories are more than history.
Circle Time
This helps children learn how to function in a group setting ~ that there is a time to talk and a time to listen, how to share their ideas, and how to learn from each other. This is where your child starts their day through meaningful experiences like storytelling, singing songs, show and tell and matching games. Children learn to express their ideas, associate the written word with the spoken word and discover their world independently.
Art
Students are involved in many fun art projects consisting of different mediums such as painting, play dough, cutting, gluing, and paper projects. These projects will generally follow the Science or Social Studies theme we are currently studying. Projects will aid students in development of eye and hand coordination and will promote creative expression in the individual student. Special daily and weekly themes or seasonal activities provide variety and excitement. Individual Portfolios and Assessments collect each child’s work and monitor progress.
Physical Education
Units and Topics: The main goal for our pre-kindergarten classes is to focus on their basic locomotive skills. Beginning with the most basic movements and to incorporate these skills into games for enjoyment and fitness.
